Robert Grant gave a report of the arrangements for the 2001 May Meeting. Robert handed out a packet of material containing vital information.
q Each state director should make travel arrangements. The arrangements can be made through World Travel or any method a director wishes to use. LifeWay will provide some financial assistance again for travel by pioneer state directors. If a director wishes not to use World Travel LifeWay’s funds will be transferred from World Travel to SSDA. Once travel arrangements have been made please send that information to Randy Tompkins (P. O. Box 311, Alexandria, Louisiana, 71309-0311) or (randy.tompkins@lbc.org). Please include mode of transportation, arrival time in Charleston, how many people will be traveling with you, and if you will have ground transportation or will need a ride from the airport. Randy will create a transportation grid to allow directors to know who might be traveling on the same flight and might car pool from the airport. Robert will have vans available for transportation, if needed.
q Since parking in the downtown area of Charleston is at a premium, Robert has made arrangements for two vans to transport the entire group from the motel to the meeting place at the Citadel Square Baptist Church.
q The primary airport is the Charleston airport. However, alternate airports might be less expensive. They are Savanna, Columbia, and Charlotte.
q The motel secured for housing during the meeting is the Hampton Inn at Patriot’s Point (255 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina 29464, 1-800-426-7866; 843-881-3300; fax 843-881-6788). Robert has secured rates for the various nights of the week for the May Meeting. Monday through Thursday evenings the rate is $79 per night plus an 11% room tax. Friday and Saturday evenings the rate is $89 per night plus the 11% room tax. Each director is to contact the Hampton Inn and make his or her own lodging reservations. Please inform Robert Grant by April 1, 2001, of the confirmation number for your reservations.
q The Wednesday evening meal will be at Poogan’s Porch. Robert has arranged for a carriage ride from the Barn near the Citadel Square Baptist Church. We will depart on the carriages by 5:00 p.m. Supper will be at 6:00 p.m. The cost of the carriage ride will be $13.50 per person. The cost of the meal will be $26.95 plus tax and gratuity. We will pay the entire bill with checks from the SSDA checking account. Please bring a check to the May Meeting for the amount for the carriage ride and the meal. Make the check out to the State Sunday School Director’s Association. Randy Tompkins will collect the checks at the meeting. Please select the items from the menu and let Robert know by April 1, 2001.
